Primitive sustainability techniques course

Objective
The objective of the course is to teach some of the main subsistence techniques that allowed primitive man to survive and progressively improve the quality of his life. The course will be developed through short theoretical lessons followed by practical sessions.
The student will be able to experiment with the techniques learned by trying his hand at making simple artifacts.
Duration
The course is held in individual sessions by appointment over the course of a single day, from 9:00 a.m. to about 6:00 p.m.
Program
Stone
Recognizing the stones suitable for making cutting tools
cutting; the basics of flint knapping; production of a splinter to be used as a blade.
Hunting
Evolution of hunting techniques in prehistory and types of weapons used.
Simulation of hunting with a spear thrower.
Fire
Fire control by early man and lighting techniques
used in prehistoric times.
Rope-making
Recognizing the plant species that can be
transformed into cordage; processing them and creating a
cord using the braiding technique.
Glues
Identifying the natural raw materials suitable for creating a
glue; using the different types of glue in Prehistory;
making a small quantity of glue.
Clay
The nature, composition and availability of clay; its use in prehistoric times for
making containers; making a mixture and creating
a container.
Weaving
The invention of the loom and weaving techniques, making a
small piece of fabric using a rudimentary loom.
Notes
The course is aimed at beginners and intermediate level students over the age of 14
(N.B.: minors must be accompanied and supervised during the activities by at least one parent).
As the course will take place indoors, it will go ahead even in case of bad weather.
Work gloves and protective glasses are mandatory for flintknapping.
We recommend a packed lunch and comfortable clothing.
